Burudi Nabwera laid to rest in Trans Nzoia

Veteran diplomat and former Cabinet minister Burudi Nabwera was laid to rest at his Sango Farm home in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Nabwera, who died at age 99, was a prominent figure in Kenya’s post-independence era, serving as the nation’s first ambassador to the United States and its first permanent representative to the United Nations.

He also served as the Minister of State in the Office of the President and was the inaugural Member of Parliament for the Lugari Constituency following its creation in 1988. The funeral was attended by political leaders, family, and community elders.

The ceremony included political discussions regarding the 2027 general election and calls for unity within the Mulembe community. The proceedings were marked by brief disruptions, including a confrontation between Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau over speaking protocols, as well as heckling directed at MP Bisau while he was reading a condolence message from President William Ruto.
