Burundi hosts high-level forum for women leaders
The 7th edition of the High-Level Forum of Women Leaders was held in Bujumbura, Burundi, focusing on women's empowerment and economic independence.
The First Lady of Burundi called on women and girls to take active roles in development projects, family planning, entrepreneurship, and environmental protection. She emphasized the need to strengthen support for African women by ensuring equal economic rights, access to land inheritance, and participation in decision-making processes.
Marie Khone Faye, the First Lady of Senegal, also addressed the forum, advocating for improved access to training, financing, and economic opportunities. She noted that skill acquisition alone is insufficient without the necessary equipment, funding, and market access to transform skills into income-generating activities. Faye also highlighted how inequalities in basic services, such as water access, can negatively impact girls' education in rural areas.
