Burundi hosts regional wrestling competition, finishes first

Burundi hosted a regional associated wrestling competition from August 22 to 23, 2026. The event featured participants from five countries: Burundi, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, and Burkina Faso.

As the host nation, Burundi finished in first place, securing a total of 47 medals, including 14 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze. Lydia Nsekera, the Minister of Youth and Sports, stated that the competition served to evaluate the level of Burundian wrestlers in preparation for future tournaments. Elie Nibizi, president of the National Federation, expressed satisfaction with the athletes' performances despite existing challenges.
