Burundi President meets Archbishop of Canterbury and Egyptian Ambassador
Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye received two high-profile visitors at the Ntare Rushatsi Palace on August 24, 2026.
The first visitor was the Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Elisabeth Mullally, who is currently on an official visit to Burundi. Her trip included participating in the investiture ceremonies for the new Anglican Archbishop of Burundi, Mgr Bigirimana Eraste, at Holy Trinity Cathedral. During their meeting, discussions focused on the Anglican Church’s contributions to Burundi’s development, specifically within the health and education sectors. The Archbishop expressed support for continued community investment and praised the collaboration between the government and the Church.
The second visitor was Amira Mostafa, the Ambassador of the Republic of Egypt to Burundi, who met with the President to conclude her diplomatic mandate. Following her farewell, President Ndayishimiye reaffirmed Burundi’s commitment to maintaining strong bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation with Egypt.
