Burundi reviews diplomatic progress and World Bank project performance

Burundi's government has conducted reviews of its diplomatic and economic performance for the second quarter of 2026. Foreign Affairs Minister Bizimana Edouard presented a report focusing on four key areas: defending the interests of Burundian citizens abroad, international cooperation, regional integration within the East African Community (EAC), and general administration. The report highlighted strengthened bilateral relations, including the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding with Ethiopia.

In a separate administrative effort, Prime Minister Nestor Ntahontuye presided over an evaluation meeting in Bujumbura regarding the performance of projects funded by the World Bank. The assessment focused on the financial and programmatic execution rates of these projects, analyzing progress against specific indicators and identifying bottlenecks. The review utilized a project-by-project methodology to address issues such as personnel recruitment and the processing of non-objection requests from the World Bank.
