Burundi Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls for media support

The Burundi Truth and Reconciliation Commission (CVR) has called upon national media outlets to support the search for historical truth, the recognition of victims, and national reconciliation. CVR President Pierre-Claver Ndayicariye urged journalists to provide fair and balanced information to help preserve the memory of past victims.

Following a June report regarding the 1972 genocide against the Hutu, the CVR is scheduled to launch a new mandate on October 25. This upcoming phase of investigations will focus on the crises of 1988, 1991, and 1993, as well as the civil war and land disputes. The commission operates under the guiding principle of “never again.”
