Burundi water project faces delays in Rumonge and Nyanza

The Director General of REGIDESO, Dr. J. Albert Manigomba, met with partners in Bujumbura to address delays in the PROSECEAU project (Sectoral Project for Drinking Water and Sanitation). The project, aimed at expanding water supply in the cities of Rumonge and Nyanza, missed its initial completion deadline of July 6, 2026.

Currently, source catchment work has reached an 85% execution rate. Operations to capture water from Lake Tanganyika are expected to begin in mid-August following the arrival of necessary equipment. The contractor has requested a deadline extension, citing various constraints. REGIDESO has demanded a new schedule from the responsible company to ensure the timely delivery of quality water to the affected populations.
