Burundi's FNL endorses President Ndayishimiye for 2027 election

The National Forces of Liberation (FNL) has officially endorsed President Évariste Ndayishimiye for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for May 3, 2027. During an FNL congress held on September 27, the party decided to support Ndayishimiye, the candidate for the ruling CNDD-FDD, rather than fielding its own candidate.

FNL President Jacques Bigirimana stated that the decision followed nationwide discussions and was based on Ndayishimiye’s achievements during his first term, specifically citing increased female participation in senior public roles and shared goals regarding national unity and peace. Ndayishimiye welcomed the endorsement, noting it reflects a commitment to strengthening democracy and development in Burundi.
