Sweden bus accident: One dead and dozens injured in Småland
An 18-year-old man has died and dozens of others have been injured after a double-decker bus overturned on Route 25 between Växjö and Alvesta in Småland, Sweden. The accident occurred on Monday afternoon around 16:30.
Approximately 45 people were on board the bus at the time of the crash. Preliminary reports indicate that around 46 people were injured, with roughly ten individuals suffering serious injuries, including two in intensive care. Local authorities in Kronoberg declared a crisis situation, and hospitals in Växjö, Ljungby, and Karlskrona prepared for the influx of patients.
Police have arrested the bus driver on suspicion of causing death, causing bodily harm, and negligence in traffic. While the driver is being investigated for these offenses, authorities noted that the charge of negligence was also included to facilitate the technical investigation into the cause of the accident. The bus company, Connect Bus, stated that the vehicle had no known technical faults and had passed recent inspections. The investigation is ongoing, and the bus has been seized for technical examination.
