Bus capacity issues reported in Salamanca and Alicante
In Salamanca, Spain, the Buscyl service is facing criticism for overcrowding that prevents vocational training (FP) students from attending the IES Leonardo Da Vinci institute in Alba de Tormes. The political group Unión del Pueblo Leonés (UPL) has submitted questions to the regional courts, noting that while the Buscyl free-fare system has increased passenger flow, service reinforcement has not kept pace. Currently, FP students are excluded from school transport rights granted to compulsory education and Bachillerato students, leaving them to rely on a system that is frequently at full capacity.
In Alicante, Spain, urban bus services are experiencing significant capacity shortages, leading to long waits and vehicles passing stops without being able to board more passengers. Users report daily issues across various routes, particularly lines 3, 4, and 8. The workers' committee at Masatusa, the city's transport concessionaire, attributes the problem to a structural deficit in fleet and personnel. They have called on the Alicante City Council to restore eight bus units that were withdrawn last year to alleviate the pressure on the network.
