Wildfires in Entre Ríos islands affect visibility on Rosario-Victoria route

Wildfires in the Entre Ríos islands and the Paraná River wetlands have caused significant smoke plumes, impacting visibility and traffic on the Rosario-Victoria national route (Route 174) in Argentina. Satellite monitoring from NASA identified approximately ten heat spots distributed throughout the wetland area.

The fires follow several days without significant rainfall, leaving vegetation dry and susceptible to flames. While some fires are linked to traditional pasture renewal, the exact origins of the recent outbreaks remain under investigation. In Ecuador, a separate forest fire in the La Vicentina neighborhood of Quito has caused traffic congestion and reduced visibility on the Velasco Ibarra Avenue. Firefighters are working to mitigate the flames and cool the surrounding slopes to prevent further spread.
