Bus crash in Retalhuleu causes multiple vehicle collisions

A bus experienced brake failure on a boulevard in Retalhuleu, Guatemala, resulting in a multiple-vehicle collision on the morning of August 16, 2026.

Video footage captured the moment the pulman-style bus lost control, striking a mototaxi and several other vehicles before ultimately crashing into a tree. Preliminary reports indicate that at least four vehicles were impacted during the incident. While it remains unclear how many passengers were on board the bus, emergency teams arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance to those affected, including occupants of a struck mototaxi.

Witnesses reported that the driver attempted maneuvers to regain control and proceeded through at least two red lights during the uncontrolled movement. The incident caused significant alarm among pedestrians and motorists in the area.
