Bus crash on Pekanbaru‑Dumai toll road kills two, injures 16

On 7 July 2026, a Bus Pelangi traveling from Batin Solapan toward Pekanbaru collided with the rear of a tronton truck on the Pekanbaru‑Dumai toll road in Riau, Indonesia. Police suspect the bus driver suffered a brief microsleep, causing the bus to strike the truck, which was thrown into a ditch.

The impact killed two passengers – Ibrahim Yafi Al Arumi, 2, and Ainul Mardiah, 58 – and injured 16 others. Emergency teams evacuated the injured and secured the scene; traffic flow was restored after the wreckage was cleared. The bus driver fled the site and remains at large while authorities continue their investigation.

Police and toll‑road operators coordinated the response, securing evidence and victim identities, and have urged drivers to avoid fatigue‑related accidents.
