Bus Crashes Kill Seven and Injure Dozens in North Sumatra and Batam, Indonesia

A bus carrying a religious tour group collided with a truck on the Lima Puluh–Indrapura toll road in Batu Bara, North Sumatra, on 22 June 2026. The accident killed seven passengers – four at the scene and three later in hospital – and left dozens more injured.

Two days earlier, a Hino tourism bus transporting more than 30 church members rolled over near Pantai Melur in Barelang, Batam, Riau Islands, after an apparent brake failure. Three passengers were hospitalized, and authorities are investigating the cause while checking the vehicle’s safety systems.

Both crashes prompted emergency response, medical treatment for the injured, and calls for stricter vehicle inspections on Indonesian tourism and public‑transport routes.
