Bus fires reported in Distrito Federal and Santa Catarina
Two separate bus fires have been reported in Brazil. In the Distrito Federal, a Viação Marechal bus caught fire on L2 Sul in front of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) headquarters on Tuesday evening. The Military Fire Brigade of the Federal District (CBMDF) responded to the call at 18:33, deploying two vehicles to combat the flames. No injuries were reported as passengers evacuated the vehicle in time. Viação Marechal stated the 2019 vehicle had undergone maintenance the previous day and is awaiting a forensic report to determine the cause.
In Garopaba, Santa Catarina, a bus operated by Expresso Garopaba experienced a fire in its engine on Thursday morning. Passengers were forced to break windows to escape the smoke. Three people required medical attention: the driver suffered smoke inhalation, one passenger sustained hand abrasions from broken glass, and another was treated for a suspected leg sprain. Local residents initially used extinguishers to control the fire before firefighters arrived to complete the operation. The company is currently investigating the cause of the incident.
