Bus overturns in Nayagada, injuring dozens of passengers
A private bus traveling from Daringbadi to Bhubaneswar overturned near the Badapandusara bypass road in the Nayagada district of Odisha early Tuesday morning. The vehicle, identified as Om Chakadola, plunged approximately 20 feet off the road into an agricultural field after smashing through a guard wall.
Between 20 and 40 passengers sustained injuries in the crash. Emergency services, including the 108 ambulance service and Fire Services, rescued passengers who had reportedly smashed the windshield to escape the vehicle. Most injured individuals were taken to the Nayagada District Headquarters Hospital, while several passengers in critical condition were transferred to medical facilities in Bhubaneswar and Kataka for advanced treatment.
The Itamati Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. While some survivors alleged high-speed driving was responsible, the bus driver claimed he lost control after being disoriented by the headlights of a motorcycle.
