Karnal police detain two after stone-pelting on Srinagar-bound bus

A passenger bus traveling from Delhi to Srinagar was attacked with stones and bricks near Kurukshetra in Haryana on the night of October 17. The incident, which occurred near the Divine Star Dhaba in the Karnal district, resulted in an elderly Kashmiri passenger sustaining injuries and caused significant damage to the vehicle's windows and lights.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the incident, seeking strict action from the Haryana government to ensure the safety of travelers. While some political leaders and the bus driver alleged the attack was a hate crime targeting the vehicle's Jammu and Kashmir registration, Karnal Police stated that preliminary investigations suggest the altercation stemmed from a localized parking dispute between the bus driver and occupants of a private car.

Two men, identified as Mohit and Sawan, have been detained by police, and a vehicle involved in the dispute has been seized. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini responded to the concerns by clarifying that the matter was a parking dispute and assured that legal proceedings are underway.
