Busan Biennale 2026 to open August 29 with ‘Dissident Chorus’ theme
The 2026 Busan Biennale is set to open on August 29 and will run for 65 days until November 1. Hosted by the city of Busan and the Busan Biennale Organizing Committee, this international contemporary art event will take place across three venues: the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, Space Oneji, and the former Busan Nam High School.
Under the theme ‘Dissident Chorus,’ the exhibition explores non-verbal communication and collective solidarity through the mediums of sound and the human body. The program aims to highlight the social roles of labor, movement, and resistance by utilizing acoustic data from the Busan region.
Co-curated by Evelyne Simon and Amal Khalaf, the event features 46 artists from 22 different countries. The works will span various genres, including installation, sound, performance, video, and sculpture. In addition to the main exhibitions, the Biennale will offer interactive programs such as workshops, talks, and performances to encourage public engagement.
