Busan City hosts forum on maritime MRO and shipbuilding cooperation
Busan Metropolitan City, the office of National Assembly member Song Ok-ju, and Hanwha Ocean co-hosted a forum at the National Assembly Library to discuss establishing a maritime Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) and ship repair cluster.
The forum focused on strengthening Korea-US shipbuilding cooperation in response to the MASGA (Make American Shipbuilding Great Again) project and the expansion of US maritime MRO needs. Discussions also addressed the demand for eco-friendly vessel conversions driven by stricter International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental regulations.
During the event, Busan City presented its ‘Busan-style strategic master plan’ for an irreplaceable maritime MRO ecosystem. Experts from the Korea Maritime Institute, the Korea Export-Import Bank, and various government ministries discussed infrastructure expansion, support for shipbuilding component industries, and the development of a ship repair complex at the Busan New Port.
