Busan companies view China as strategic technology partner

Companies based in Busan, South Korea, are increasingly viewing China as a strategic partner for technological collaboration and supply chain integration. Rather than treating China solely as a manufacturing hub, these businesses are shifting toward a model of deep economic interdependence focused on high-tech innovation and logistics.

Recent data indicates that bilateral trade surged by nearly 48 percent in early 2026. Experts suggest that the upcoming 33rd APEC economic leaders' meeting in Shenzhen this November will further drive this interest, positioning the city as a critical gateway for economic engagement.

Jung Hyun-min of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry describes this trend as a fundamental shift rather than a temporary phase. He attributes the change to the necessity of market diversification, intense technological competition, and the ongoing reorganization of global supply networks.
