Busan court upholds police suspension as tax office reports livelihood-type delinquents
A Busan District Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a police team leader who challenged a three-month suspension. The officer was found to have abandoned his post 39 times during night shifts, totaling 486 hours of unauthorized absence, and improperly received approximately 7.4 million won in allowances. The court ruled that the officer's actions significantly damaged public trust and police discipline.
Separately, the Busan Regional Tax Office's tax delinquency management team is highlighting the reality of livelihood-type tax delinquents. Many individuals face heavy tax burdens due to business failures or the practice of name lending, where individuals allow others to use their identity for business registration.
Field workers report that many delinquents express a strong will to pay once their financial situations improve. The tax office has utilized the 'extinguishment of payment obligation for livelihood-type delinquents' system to provide relief, such as canceling debts for elderly citizens living in extreme poverty or those who incurred debts through business failures.
