Busan expands AI traffic management and real-time signal services
Busan Metropolitan City has completed a 2.9 billion won project to establish a real-time intersection information service, expanding its Artificial Intelligence (AI) traffic management system. The initiative aims to enhance road safety and traffic flow by collecting and analyzing real-time data.
A key feature is the new intersection flood detection system, which uses algorithms at 11 high-risk locations to provide detour and traffic control information to citizens during heavy rainfall. Additionally, the city has expanded its infrastructure for sharing real-time signal information with major mobile navigation apps and vehicle connected services to prevent speeding and intersection blocking.
The implementation of smart intersection technologies, including real-time signal control and smart responsive signal systems, has shown significant results in pilot operations. The real-time signal control system reduced intersection delay times by over 10%, while the smart responsive signal system reduced delays by 36%.
