Busan gang member sentenced for retaliatory assault in organized‑crime case

A Busan court handed down differing verdicts in a case involving the city's two main organized‑crime groups, the Shin‑20th‑Century faction and the Chilsung faction. The convicted offender, identified as A, received a prison term of one year and ten months for participating in a group assault on a 30‑year‑old Chilsung member, B, on 7 April in the Suyeong‑gu district. B sustained rib fractures and other injuries requiring six weeks of medical care. A was also found guilty of possessing a 17‑cm knife after the attack. The court noted the need to break the cycle of retaliatory violence between the two gangs, which have been engaged in a series of revenge attacks over recent years.
