Busan gas station error affects 180 vehicles with contaminated fuel

Approximately 180 vehicles have been affected after a self-service gas station in Saha-gu, Busan, accidentally sold fuel contaminated with diesel. The incident occurred on August 25 when an employee mistakenly poured diesel into a gasoline storage tank during a fuel transfer.

Drivers began reporting vehicle malfunctions and unusual noises shortly after refueling. Repair costs for the affected vehicles are estimated to range from 1 million won to tens of millions of won depending on the severity of the damage. The gas station has stated it will proceed with compensation procedures for the victims.

Local authorities in Saha-gu are reviewing potential administrative actions. Following an investigation by the Korea Petroleum Management Institute, the station could face penalties under the Petroleum Business Act. If the fuel is classified as counterfeit, the station could face a three-month business suspension or fines up to 100 million won. If deemed a quality non-compliance issue, penalties may include warnings or fines up to 30 million won.
