Busan initiates development of Airport Complex City near Gadeokdo
Busan Metropolitan City has initiated administrative procedures to develop an ‘Airport Complex City’ surrounding the Gadeokdo New Airport. The city has prepared a draft for the designation of a Free Economic Zone and a strategic environmental impact assessment to transform the area into a new industrial and residential hub.
The development plan includes eco-friendly urban features such as new waterways, a lake park for disaster prevention and recreation, and pedestrian-oriented spaces with horizontal walking parks to reduce vehicle reliance. Public inspections of the documents are scheduled through September 23, with briefing sessions to be held in Busan Gangseo-gu and Changwon Jinhae-gu on September 7 and 8.
Busan aims to apply for the Free Economic Zone designation to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy within this year, with the goal of finalizing the designation and development plan by 2027.
