Busan International Film Festival celebrates three decades of Asian cinema
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has evolved over three decades into one of Asia’s most prominent cinematic celebrations. Since its inception in 1996, which featured 173 films from 31 countries, the festival has grown into a major global gathering for filmmakers, industry professionals, and cinephiles.
Beyond film screenings, the festival provides a platform for networking, industry events, and educational opportunities such as cine classes and post-film Q&A sessions. A primary mission of BIFF is to support independent and regional filmmakers by providing visibility and access to audiences that might otherwise be unavailable to non-mainstream productions due to limited marketing resources and theatrical release constraints.
