Busan International Film Festival sees record attendance in 2026
The 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2026 achieved record attendance, drawing 277,027 participants. This figure represents an increase of approximately 40,000 people compared to the previous year, with film viewers alone totaling 200,043—the highest number since 2015.
Festival Executive Director Jeong Han Seok noted that the success stems from a new approach to audience engagement. Key factors included adjusting the festival schedule to better utilize the weekend and hosting high-profile international and Korean film stars. The event featured 315 films, including 246 official selections from 59 countries.
Alongside the festival, the “Hong Kong Cinema @ BUSAN 2026” campaign concluded successfully. Co-organized by several Hong Kong government agencies, including the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC), the initiative aimed to promote Hong Kong's film industry and foster international co-productions through activities like the Hong Kong Pavilion and Hong Kong Night.
