Busan Mayor implements market support and meeting livestreams
Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo is implementing several measures to support the local economy and increase administrative transparency. During a visit to Dongnae Market, the Mayor held a meeting with merchants to discuss ways to revitalize traditional markets amid high inflation and economic stagnation.
As part of the ‘Busan Livelihood 100-Day Emergency Measures,’ the city is expanding the use of Dongbaekjeon QR payments. This system allows merchants to receive direct transfers without the typical credit card processing fees, helping to reduce business costs. Other planned support includes energy vouchers, increased cashback for Dongbaekjeon, and consumption coupons.
In a move toward greater transparency, Busan Metropolitan City has decided to livestream its weekly policy meetings once a month on the ‘Busan Tube’ YouTube channel. This decision follows internal debates regarding the balance between the public’s right to know and the administrative burden on civil servants, who have reported facing increased harassment and complaints following previous live broadcasts.
