Busan Office of Education launches AI system for essay assessments

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has launched a project to implement an AI-based support system for descriptive and essay-type assessments. The system is designed to integrate the entire evaluation process, including question creation, exam administration, AI-driven automated grading, teacher review, and student feedback.

To develop this technology, the office has partnered with digital assessment specialists and IT companies specializing in AI and web browser technology. The initiative aims to reduce the administrative burden on teachers regarding grading while ensuring consistency and fairness in evaluations.

In conjunction with the technical rollout, the office is conducting teacher training programs to enhance professional competency in descriptive assessment. The goal is to transition from traditional rote memorization-based testing to a model that encourages students to think and express themselves independently. The system will be introduced gradually as a supportive tool for classroom learning, with plans to expand the number of participating teachers and schools through 2027.
