Busan Police increase investigative staff to enhance expertise

The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency is implementing measures to enhance investigative expertise and accountability in response to changes in the criminal justice system. During a recent forum, leadership discussed strategies across five key areas: personnel, education, investigation quality, control systems, and the work environment.

To bolster field capabilities, the agency has increased its investigative workforce by 78 personnel in the second half of the year. This expansion includes specialists in cybercrime, digital forensics, narcotics, and investigations involving women and youth.

Additional initiatives include the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to support investigations, the digitalization of criminal justice information systems, and an expansion of the external member pool for the Police Investigation Deliberation Committee from 35 to 73 people. The agency also aims to attract professional talent by hosting information sessions for law school students.
