Busan Port anti-drone system fails to detect visible drones

An anti-drone system recently implemented at Busan Port, a critical national facility, has been found to have significant detection blind spots. Despite an investment of nearly 6.8 billion won, internal reports indicate that the system frequently fails to identify unauthorized drones.

The system, which includes radar for detecting flying objects and scanners to identify drone locations, was installed across three areas: Busan North Port, New Port, and Gamcheon Port. However, testing revealed that at certain piers, both the radar and scanners failed to recognize drones. In some instances, the system failed to display the location of the drone or its operator, and in other cases, drones clearly visible to the human eye went undetected by the scanners.

In response, the Busan Port Authority and security officials plan to conduct further flight tests at various piers to identify the causes of these blind spots and optimize the placement of the radar and RF scanners.
