Busan school committees and parents demand halt to education grant reform

On February 28, the Busan School Operating Committee and the Busan Parents Association held a joint meeting with the Busan Office of Education and issued a statement calling for the immediate withdrawal of the government’s plan to restructure local education fiscal grants. The groups argue that using the decline in school‑age population as a justification to cut the Education Ministry’s grant would jeopardise school meals, facility upgrades, basic learning support, childcare services and digital classroom infrastructure.

They stress that stable, adequate funding is essential for guaranteeing students’ right to quality public education and that any reform must be based on broad consultation with the education community before implementation.
