Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do launch super-regional economic cooperation
The governors of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) are intensifying super-regional cooperation to foster balanced national development and economic integration.
At the 4th Bu-Ul-Gyeong Policy Council, leaders discussed establishing a unified economic and living zone. Key initiatives include the ‘Bu-Ul-Gyeong Gwangyeok-Ieum’ (Super-regional Connection) project, a 12.5 billion won initiative supported by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. This project aims to break down administrative barriers to support talent inflow, employment, and commuting across the three regions.
Specific measures include commuting subsidies for workers moving between the cities, settlement support for youth, and specialized training in AI-driven manufacturing for the automotive, shipbuilding, and machinery sectors. The regions also plan to coordinate on large-scale infrastructure, such as the Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan and Southeast Coast circular railways, to strengthen their collective competitiveness.
