Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do selected for national quantum sensing cluster

The southeastern South Korean provinces of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do have been selected to develop the ‘Southeast Quantum Sensing Cluster’ as part of a national quantum cluster initiative. The project, scheduled to run from 2027 to 2030, focuses on fostering quantum sensing technology and integrating quantum materials, components, equipment, and algorithms with the region's core industries.

Pusan National University and the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) will serve as the two primary technical hubs for research and development. The initiative aims to connect these technological advancements to four key demand sectors: shipbuilding and maritime, port and logistics, aerospace and defense, and mobility and energy.

The regional governments plan to establish a comprehensive ecosystem that spans from initial research and development to field verification, commercialization, and the cultivation of specialized talent to drive new industrial growth and job creation.
