Bushehr welfare services support 3,400 visually impaired individuals

In observance of White Cane Day, officials in Bushehr, Iran, highlighted the support services provided to the visually impaired. Currently, 3,482 blind and low-vision individuals are covered by the Bushehr Welfare Administration, with 2,438 receiving regular pensions.

The administration operates two specialized day centers with a total capacity of 100 people to provide rehabilitation and social skill training. Additionally, 16 billion rials have been allocated to assist 430 eligible individuals with the purchase of assistive rehabilitation equipment.

Preventative measures are also a priority, with over 52,000 children screened in the province to identify and prevent amblyopia (lazy eye). White Cane Day serves as a global symbol to promote independence, accessibility, and equal rights for the visually impaired community.
