Business closures in the Netherlands result in 205 job losses

Two separate business closures in the Netherlands have resulted in significant job losses for local workers.

In Eerbeek, the attempted takeover of the Folding Boxboard paper factory has collapsed after the agreed purchase price was not paid. The bankruptcy trustee has terminated the purchase agreement, leaving 160 employees without jobs effective immediately. This follows a period of instability for the facility, which had filed for bankruptcy in late June.

In Dronryp, the poultry slaughterhouse Pluimveeslachterij W. Van der Meer will close its doors on August 28, 2026. The decision was made by its parent company, VTM Quality Services Group, following an increase in losses despite a rise in turnover since the 2024 acquisition. The closure will result in the loss of 45 positions. Labor representatives noted that the suddenness of the announcement came as a shock to employees, as there had been no prior internal signals regarding the company's financial instability.
