Business closures rise in Campeche and Los Mochis amid economic strain

Small businesses and restaurants in various Mexican regions are facing significant closures due to economic instability. In Campeche, Coparmex president Alejandro Risueño Rivas reported that a lack of circulating capital and weak commercial dynamics have forced even long-standing businesses to close. He noted that the state consistently ranks among the lowest in economic performance according to the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE).

In Los Mochis, Sinaloa, the restaurant sector is also struggling, with twenty businesses closing so far this year. Mario Zazueta Félix, president of the local Restaurant Business Council, cited high rent costs, tax burdens, and employer obligations as primary drivers of these closures. Business leaders in both regions are calling for government intervention and the allocation of specific resources in the 2027 budget to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (Mipymes), which represent the vast majority of economic units and job creators.
