Business sectors face logistics risks in Mexico and high energy costs in Dominican Republic
In Mexico, road closures in the State of Mexico have put the business sector on alert. Laura González Hernández, head of the State Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDECO), stated that while no direct damage to businesses has been reported yet, authorities are monitoring the risk to goods transportation and commercial activities. Despite warnings from the National Chamber of the Manufacturing Industry (Canacintra) regarding transport complications, the government is coordinating with mobility and security agencies to identify alternative routes and mitigate delays.
In the Dominican Republic, merchants, hoteliers, and residents in border areas are reporting business closures and bankruptcies due to high electricity bills from the distributor Edesur. Affected parties claim meter reading distortions have resulted in disproportionate charges, sometimes exceeding RD$10,000 for minimal appliance use. Complainants have also noted a lack of physical invoices, hindering their ability to verify consumption, and are calling for an urgent review of billing practices to prevent further economic hardship.
