Business travelers seek privacy and safety in hotel rooms

A recent survey commissioned by Hyatt and conducted by Talker Research reveals that 90% of business travelers view their hotel rooms as the only place where they can truly disconnect from work. The study of 2,000 Americans highlights a significant struggle with work-life balance, with 46% of respondents reporting guilt when choosing to decompress in their rooms rather than participating in optional work activities.

To secure personal downtime, some travelers admitted to using various tactics, such as faking meetings or claiming conflicting commitments to avoid networking events. Others reported using more extreme excuses to avoid social obligations.

In addition to mental well-being, physical safety remains a priority for corporate travelers. Guidance from BCD and Maiden Voyage suggests proactive measures to mitigate risks, such as requesting non-adjoining rooms or rooms above the ground floor during the booking process. Travelers are also advised to be discreet during check-in to prevent others from hearing their room numbers and to trust their instincts regarding room locations.
