Puerto Iguazú businessman and racing driver Alfredo Wiebel murdered

Alfredo Matías Wiebel Giampaoli, a 48-year-old prominent hotelier, restaurateur, and racing driver, was shot and killed in Puerto Iguazú, Misiones. The incident occurred at a construction site near the intersection of Avenida República Argentina and Pancho Ramírez.

Authorities have identified Wiebel’s 82-year-old former father-in-law, Ángel Ramón Salazar, as the primary suspect. Investigations suggest the shooting followed a heated argument between the two men, potentially stemming from disputes over business assets and family matters following Wiebel's divorce from Salazar's daughter. Witnesses reported that Salazar fired a 9mm Glock handgun, striking Wiebel multiple times; an autopsy confirmed he received five gunshot wounds, four of which were fatal.

Following the attack, Salazar fled the scene in a Toyota SW4 but was later located at a local clinic, where he remains under police custody. Police have conducted searches at Salazar's residence, seizing a 9mm pistol and various items of clothing for ballistic and forensic analysis. The investigation is ongoing as judicial authorities work to clarify the exact circumstances of the confrontation.
