Maringá ordered to hold new funeral service bidding process

The Court of Accounts of Paraná (TCE-PR) has ordered the City of Maringá to conduct a new bidding process for the concession of municipal funeral services. The decision, published on September 3, 2026, sets a 120-day deadline for the municipality to initiate the new tender.

The ruling follows a long-standing investigation into the irregular extension of existing contracts. In 2020, the TCE-PR identified that the municipality had extended contracts for five companies—originally signed in 2009 with a 10-year term—without a proper bidding process after they expired in 2019.

In addition to the requirement for a new tender, the court mandated that the municipality submit a bill to the City Council within 120 days to align local legislation regarding funeral concessions with established legal standards.
