Businessman Luis Francisco Ravell Cobá killed in Campeche

Luis Francisco Ravell Cobá, a 67-year-old scrap metal businessman, was shot and killed on Saturday near the Faro Xicalango in the Atasta Peninsula, located in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche.

At the time of the attack, Ravell Cobá was overseeing the dismantling of an abandoned vessel, reportedly formerly owned by Oceanografía, alongside several workers. According to reports, armed individuals arrived on a motorcycle, identified the businessman, and opened fire without provocation. The victim died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head near his white Dodge 4000 truck.

The Fiscalía General del Estado de Campeche (FGECAM) and forensic experts arrived to secure the perimeter and collect evidence. While authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and establish a motive, no arrests have been reported. Some unconfirmed reports suggest the killing may be linked to disputes regarding the dismantling of the vessel.
