Buskerud District Court upholds compulsory mental health care for Kongsberg killer

The Buskerud District Court has upheld the decision to keep Espen Andersen Bråthen under compulsory mental health care. Bråthen, who killed five people in Kongsberg in October 2021 using a bow, arrow, and knife, argued in court that he is now healthy and no longer poses a danger to others.

However, expert witnesses testified that while there has been some improvement, Bråthen lacks insight into his illness and requires his current structured psychiatric treatment at Drammen Hospital. The court noted that his situation has remained almost unchanged over the last three years.
