Busta Rhymes releases Dillagence II featuring J Dilla beats
Busta Rhymes has released “Dillagence II”, his twelfth studio album, which is constructed entirely from previously unreleased beats by the late producer J Dilla. The project utilizes material from nearly 300 beats that Dilla provided to Rhymes prior to his death in 2006. The release was made possible with the involvement and approval of Dilla’s mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey.
The 19-track album features a diverse roster of guest artists, including Lil Wayne, Talib Kweli, Anderson .Paak, Ludacris, Big Sean, and Common. A notable highlight is the track “This Woman”, which features a posthumous collaboration with D'Angelo. The song utilizes a scratch vocal from a session Dilla and D'Angelo recorded approximately 20 years ago that had never been completed.
Unlike contemporary hip-hop releases designed for streaming playlists, “Dillagence II” focuses on Dilla’s signature production aesthetic, characterized by complex loops and unconventional grooves.
