Busto Arsizio opposes co‑capital plan, urges new province centred on city

Former council president Diego Cornacchia said the proposal to make Busto Arsizio a co‑capital of the Varese province “fa bene Varese a prendersela”. He argued that Busto Arsizio is more closely linked to Milan and should instead be the centre of a new province that also comprising Gallarate and Legnano. Cornacchia suggested naming the new province “BLG” (or “BGL”) and noted that such a unit would gather around 400,000 residents, comparable to other Italian provinces.

He dismissed the double‑capital idea as outdated, pointing out that the existing province was created in 1927 when Busto Arsizio was still a small town. The politician called for a re‑evaluation of provincial boundaries to better reflect current economic and demographic realities.
