Busy Philipps discusses brain tumor diagnosis and recovery
Actress Busy Philipps has shared details regarding her diagnosis of a grade 2 oligodendroglioma, a type of brain tumor. The diagnosis was initially received in February, leading to her first surgery on March 2.
Philipps discussed the emotional impact on her family, specifically her 18-year-old daughter, Birdie, who was home from boarding school during the health crisis. To comfort her daughter, Philipps promised her that her life was not a movie where a mother dies during a child's senior year of high school, but rather a story where a mother faces a tumor and continues her career.
The actress also noted that the tumor was discovered via a preventative medical scan. She revealed that the timing of the scan followed the death of her close friend and former co-star, James Van Der Beek. Additionally, Philipps humorously recalled asking doctors if she could receive a temporal brow lift during her brain surgery, a request which the medical team declined.
