Butane cylinder prices in Spain to rise to 18.84 euros

The maximum regulated price for a traditional 12.5 kg butane cylinder in Spain will increase by 4.96% starting Tuesday, September 15, reaching 18.84 euros. This adjustment, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), nearly hits the 5% limit allowed for bimonthly price revisions.

Several factors contributed to the hike, including an 8.24% rise in raw material costs (propane and butane) and a 10.27% increase in freight and transport costs. While the appreciation of the euro against the dollar (+7.1%) helped mitigate some costs, the overall trend remains upward. The revision also accounts for a temporary reduction in the Hydrocarbon Tax established by Royal Decree-law 18/2026.

Without the 5% regulatory cap and current fiscal measures, the price would have reached 18.89 euros. The difference will be carried over to future price updates. This increase occurs amid broader energy market volatility linked to conflicts in the Middle East. Although butane remains a vital alternative for households without natural gas connections, its consumption has seen a steady decline of over 12% since 2021.
