Butch Huskey dies at 54; Mets secure walk-off win

Former New York Mets outfielder Butch Huskey has died at the age of 54. Huskey, who was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma, passed away due to a pulmonary embolism. He was a notable figure in Major League Baseball, recognized as one of the final players to wear number 42 following its league-wide retirement in honor of Jackie Robinson, thanks to a grandfather clause.

Huskey played seven seasons in the majors between 1993 and 2000, spending the majority of his career with the Mets. His best statistical season occurred in 1997, when he recorded 24 home runs and 81 RBIs. Following his tenure in New York, he played for the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, and Colorado Rockies.

In recent baseball action, the New York Mets secured a 5-4 walk-off victory against the Washington Nationals. Francisco Lindor delivered the decisive RBI single in the ninth inning to complete the comeback. The win was supported by a home run from Jared Young and a strong relief performance from Jefry Yan, who earned his first Major League victory.
