Butjadingen Deich Tour Explores Historic Land Reclamation; Bochum Butterfly Walk Reports Limited Sightings

A day trip along the deich line in the Butjadinger Land highlighted the historic land‑reclamation efforts dating back to the early 1600s, including the construction of the Ellenser Damm and subsequent dike building that transformed the coastal landscape.

A separate organized walk on the Tippelsberg near Bochum, led by butterfly expert Dr. Wulf Jaedicke, attracted twenty participants despite overcast weather. Few butterflies were observed, though later sunny intervals allowed sightings of species such as the oak‑eye and the common blue.
