Butterfly World Antalya debunks one‑day butterfly lifespan myth

Butterfly World Antalya, a new alternative‑tourism centre in Kepez district of Antalya, Turkey, opened with a tropical‑rainforest theme and houses around 20,000 butterflies representing about 40 species. The facility also displays tropical birds, parrots, toucans and a 150‑square‑metre artificial pond with koi fish.

Manager Ismail Arık explained that the long‑standing belief that butterflies live only one day is incorrect. Most species live an average of about 20 days, with some lasting up to 45 days; certain moths live 2‑3 days as adults but spend 10‑12 years as larvae underground. The centre uses QR codes, audio guides and brochures to correct the misinformation and educate visitors about butterfly life cycles.

The attraction aims to add value to Antalya’s tourism sector by offering a day‑trip recreation experience that combines education with a tropical ambience.
